Types of Network virtualization:
- External virtualization: in this type of network virtualization, one or more local area networks are either combined or separated into virtual networks to improve the overall performance of a data center or bigger network. External virtualization has two main components i.e. a network switch and a virtual local area network. System administrators can utilize this technology for either configuring a local network’s physically attached systems into separate VLANs or for combining systems of different LANs into a single virtual local network.
- Internal virtualization: In this type of network virtualization, software containers i.e. hypervisor programs or VNICs, are used to configure a single system in order to imitate a physical network. By isolating different applications with the help of containers, the efficiency of the system can be improved.

Implementation of collaborative technologies in data centers has created a demand for sophisticated network infrastructures.
